Water Pact for a Kontich Industrial Estate

2025-2026
Kontich
For Municipality of Kontich
With IMDC, Tractebel

Together with the Municipality of Kontich, IMDC and Tractebel, we developed a preliminary study serving as a catalyst for a master plan and transition strategy for the SME zone Blauwe Steen in Kontich. The main challenge was to engage those companies that do not directly experience flooding, but nonetheless contribute to the issue. How can we create engagement among all companies in the area so that they support the municipality’s master plan through investments on their own sites, focusing on de-sealing surfaces, slowing down water runoff and increasing water storage capacity?

The participation strategy combined individual and group dialogue (network breakfasts), a survey, and pragmatic, efficient co-creation formats (on-site design workshops). The focus was on building awareness, developing a shared understanding of urgency, and exploring possible solutions as a stepping stone towards collaboration and action.

We facilitated the process with a strong emphasis on knowledge building, trust development and a shared perspective. This provided the partners with a solid foundation for the transition plan and offered companies concrete tools for future-oriented investments, as well as visibility through the ‘Water Pact Blauwe Steen’.
