Citizen’s budget Antwerpen
Residents of Antwerp County collectively decide how to allocate 1.4 million euros, prioritizing key themes and determining which plans will be implemented. These plans primarily focus on public space improvements, such as reducing paved areas, planting trees and greenery, adding benches and bike racks, improving road markings, and installing traffic-calming measures.
Many citizen-led budget projects actively involve neighborhoods in their design. For projects with less initial engagement, the district collaborates with Createlli and Cluster to involve neighbors, local residents, and users. Createlli brings expertise in designing participatory processes and facilitating targeted engagement, while Cluster Landscape & Urban Planning contributes their extensive experience in spatial design.
Together, we empower and support project initiators to inform and engage their communities, gathering input, feedback, and concerns. Where necessary, we explore alternative solutions and seek compromises to ensure feasibility and resolve potential conflicts. After aligning with the district, we finalize plans for implementation.
To date, we have supported approximately 30 projects, creating meaningful collaborations and tangible improvements across Antwerp County.
