CONTEXT & OBJECTIVE

Mechelen is a mid size town with 84.000 inhabitants located between Antwerp and Brussels. The mayor and the administration run the city, following a very inclusive urban policy and has transformed the city to a positive, collaborative, inclusive community. The city was awarded with the 2016 World Mayor prize.

The project, thus, had the following goals:

• To involve a maximum number of people in a positive, constructive way in the city’s projects.
• To use participation to involve citizens in concrete and well defined projects, delivering results.
• To involve citizens, that would otherwise be left out,  by using digital participation tools. That way, more people can be involved directly in improving services of the city that matter for them.

OUR APPROACH

Createlli worked with Mechelen on the following projects with the aim of allowing the town, that was already in intensive collaborations with stakeholder associations, to enter in direct communication with its citizens. There were different communication and participation projects that focused on different areas of the citizens' experience in the city. 

Merchelen citizens and sport. What makes you do sports? What can the city do for the recreative sporter in the city?

Citizen satisfaction with the city counter The aim of the project was to get the citizen’s feedback about their experience with the town hall administrative service desk, and to co-work finding solutions and ways to improve.

Mechelen Shoppingtown At the end of 2016, it was developed an evaluation of the initiatives to attract shoppers to the town centre. The initiatives where successful and so were improved and reimplemented in 2017.

Mechelen City of the Children The city wished to face the callenge to make Mechelen a more child-friendly city. And if so, which should be the priorities for 2017/2018?

RESULTS

More than 1000 inhabitants participated in each of the projects, being a extremely satisfactory result.
The citizens and town hall were very satisfied with the number of participants, the easy access for citizens to the campaigns and the flexible and dedicated support of the team of Createlli.
