Masterplan Unal

The Unal site in Geraardsbergen is a 24-hectare industrial estate located along the River Dender. The area faces several challenges, including flood risk, ageing infrastructure and limited accessibility. Together with Plusoffice and Leidsman, we are developing a future vision that:

• combines economic activity with climate resilience and water management;
• ensures safe and efficient mobility;
• creates opportunities for the creative, social and circular economy.

Participation has played a key role in the development of this master plan from the very beginning. During the analysis phase, we engaged with businesses, local residents, young people, schools and environmental organisations to gather their ideas, concerns and ambitions for the site. Through site walks, interviews and interactive workshops, we worked towards a shared vision for its future.

This approach results in a master plan that is both technically robust and broadly supported, with a clear vision for a climate-resilient, economically vibrant and sustainable industrial estate.
