The City of Mechelen and the Agency for Roads and Traffic have ambitious plans for the complete renewal of the Vesten. These plans aim to create more space for safe and comfortable cycling and walking, public transport, and green areas. The Vesten will also become a vibrant space for community interaction, relaxation, sports, and play, while still accommodating local traffic. Now that the available space on the Vesten has been identified, the next step is to collaboratively shape its future with input from residents, workers, and regular passersby.

Createlli contributed to the participation strategy, leading the sounding board group and organizing both physical and digital engagement moments with the public. We also carried out targeted outreach to engage youth and vulnerable groups. Our efforts ensured a diverse range of voices were heard, and the results were captured in reports, which are available on the Nieuwe Vesten website.

Thanks to this intensive participation process, a widely supported proposal for the new ring road design has emerged. The first phase of implementation is already underway, with further phases to follow.
