K-R8 (KRACHT) is a collaborative effort between the Flemish Government, local authorities, and Intercommunale Leiedal to tackle the growing traffic bottleneck around Kortrijk, particularly along the ring road and its interchanges. At the same time, the project aims to revitalize the surrounding environment by promoting sustainable mobility and spatial development. K-R8 is a comprehensive, future-focused solution that addresses both traffic flow and environmental quality.

In partnership with the clients, we implemented a multi-channel communication and participation strategy. Traditional communication methods and workshops were enhanced with digital tools to broaden engagement. A press event, a campaign highlighting traffic data, and social media outreach encouraged citizens to visit the website and participate in an online survey. Additionally, we held four physical information and dialogue sessions where experts gathered valuable feedback, some of which was immediately acted upon.

The insights were compiled into recommendations for the steering committee and shared in a public report. In 2023, the zoning plan (RUP) was approved, and in 2024 we will continue to support participation in the design of the northern ring road and service roads along residential and commercial areas.
