GALDAKAO CONTINUES WITH PARTICIPATION IN ORDER TO ELABORATE MUNICIPAL BUDGETS

The City Council of Galdakao is running, for the sixth consecutive year, the process of citizen participation for the preparation of the municipal budgets 2019.

The process of citizen participation was launched in January 2019 to prepare the annual municipal budgets. This continues with an initiative that started in 2013 and that has allowed, year after year, to incorporate citizens' needs and proposals directly into the public budgets.

In 2018, the Municipality of Galdakao has dedicated around 10% of the annual municipal budget to the implementation of projects that promote the balance between neighborhoods. A big part of these projects have been the result of citizen contributions raised through participation.

The participation process

For the 2019 exercise, the process of participation reached out to citizens through 3 channels: on-line, face-to-face through a tent in the street that moved from neighbourhood to neighbourhood, and through 13000 letters sent to households.

Citizens can express their degree of satisfaction of certain services, as well as make proposals to improve them.

The exercise closed end January, and the results are now analysed to bring them to the municipal council.
