In May 2024, the Flemish Government and the Province of East Flanders approved the Strategic Plan “Room for Water” for the Dender Valley. In addition to the renewal of the weirs, this plan aims to reduce the risk of flooding along the Dender.

One key project is the redevelopment of the river’s passage through the center of Geraardsbergen. This will not only better protect the city center from flooding but also create more space to relax, move around, and enjoy the water.

To prepare, we went on a site visit.
