The green, de-paved Hortensia Sillis Square
At the square by the Panamarenko House in Antwerp, many functions come together: meeting, playing, taking a break, or simply passing through. However, the space struggled with a chaotic layout and limited green areas. The neighborhood therefore dreamed of a greener, more pleasant, and cleaner square while preserving the existing trees.
As part of the citizen’s budget process, Createlli supported the engagement process. We brought together the expectations of residents and the district, communicated transparently, and gathered the needs of both immediate neighbors and the wider community.
Based on this input, our partner Cluster developed a design in which 200 m² of hard surface was replaced with large green areas, aligned with logical walking routes and usage patterns. The result is a balanced square that accommodates meeting and activities, while also responding to the needs of both residents and the city.
