Slachthuiswijk
Antwerp has the ambition to redevelop the Slachthuissite, North Skipper Dock and Lobroek Dock. The goal is a mixed qualitative and accessible project with main destination housing, interwoven with services, recreation and activity. We were commissioned to carry out the participation and communication process, with the goal of involving the residents of the various Dam neighborhood and local hospitality industry to further align the new public space with how the neighborhood functions today and come to a supported plan. In earlier phases, dialogue with local residents and civic movement was difficult and therefore required specialized guidance and approach. We proposed a multi-channel participation; various activities tailored to different target groups and flexible because of the lockdown. Thanks to good cooperation with the citizen movement and actors in the neighborhood, we succeeded. The process was very rich in content and counted on approval from both client, developer, and local actors. Mutual relationships were strengthened and the project went into execution.
