DNA Masterplan Nieuwenhove
The province of West Flanders encourages villages with the programme ‘DNA of the village’ to shape their own future. In response, the Waregem town council launched a participatory process to develop a future vision for Nieuwenhove, engaging all stakeholders through exploration, research, and collaboration.
Nieuwenhove’s village character is under pressure, and a new purpose is being sought for the old school building. To uncover the essence of the village, listening sessions and interviews were conducted, revealing its ‘DNA’ and shaping the foundation of the master plan.
In the first village meeting, residents of all ages were invited to share their ideas and aspirations for Nieuwenhove and its key locations. Based on this input, the design team developed an integrated vision, detailed designs for the old school site’s surroundings, and a practical action plan.
These proposals were presented and refined during a second village meeting, resulting in a clear roadmap for the future of Nieuwenhove. This agenda now serves as a guide for the Waregem town council to realize the village’s vision.
