Master Plan for the Fortress Belt of Dendermonde
As the city evolves, each renewal project poses the risk of losing more of the Fortress Belt or an opportunity to restore and revive it. To guide future developments, Dendermonde created a long-term Master Vision aimed at safeguarding and enhancing this historical area.
A design team was appointed, and the city emphasized close collaboration with local organizations, associations, and residents. A sounding board group of active associations, schools, and advisory councils helped build support for the project and its participatory approach. Through this process, 645 citizens contributed valuable input, providing feedback on current use, proposals from the design team, and ideas for the future vision.
In spring 2024, the City Council unanimously approved the Master Vision, with praise for the inclusive participation process.
